LocationThe Rocky property is located 90 km north of Prince George, B.C. in the Cariboo Mining Division. Latitude and longitude of the property are 54"40'N, 122'37'W.
SummaryThe Rocky property was staked by Teck Corporation to cover a sedimentary exhalative target based on the results of a regional program carried out in the area. The 1992 regional program outlined Zn and minor Pb soil anomalies on reconnaissance soil traverses. The purpose of the 1993 program was to better define the 1992 regional soil anomalies, confirm the anomalies by geophysics, and geologically map the property. Download ARIS Report »
The property is primarily underlain by a Middle Devonian succession that consists of sandstone, felsic and intermediate cherty tuff, slate and black argillite and chert, and limestone. Only black shales and cherts have been observed on the property due to very limited exposure. Based on stratigraphic and age relationships, the succession appears to belong to the Road River Group.
The soil survey outlined a 1.6 km long northwest trending multi-element Pb, Zn, Ag and Ba anomaly open in both directions. Values range up to 94 ppm Pb, 2498 ppm Zn, 11.1 ppm Ag and 2400 ppm Ba, significantly anomalous in this till covered environment. The strongest multi-element signature occurs around L59N/6+75 to 7+25W and extends 150m to both the northwest and southeast. The S.P. survey outlined a 800m long, 100 - 125m wide 200 - 400 Mv anomaly that is open ended. The conductor closely follows the multi-element soil anomaly through this area, particularly the Pb. The anomaly is consistent with a zone of 20% massive sulfides, excluding sphalerite.
The 1993 program outlined coincident Pb, Zn, Ag soil anomalies that correspond to an S.P. conductor. The anomalous soils and conductor are consistent with responses from massive sulfide style mineralization and correspond to favourable stratigraphy. A program of soil and S.P. surveys followed by excavator trenching is recommended for 1994.
- During 2008 Spectrum Mining acquired the Tacheeda Lake REE prospect and the Wicheeda Project. According to Graf et al. (2009) the Wicheeda discovery is comprised of several intrusive carbonatite bodies which form a northwest to southeast trend about 2 km wide by 15 km long. The Wicheeda "Main Zone" is coincident with an area of anomalous soil geochemistry of more than 400 ppm cerium, measuring about 500 by 1,000 m.
- The north side of the "Main Zone" is coincident with a magnetic geophysical anomaly measuring approximately 500 by 1,000 m. During 2008 and 2009, the "Main Zone" was drill tested with 15 drill holes at three sites. Highlights included:
2008-02: 3.55% REE across 48.64 m
2009-02: 2.2% REE across 144 m
2009-07: 2.92% REE across 72
The drill results also contained significant amounts of zinc, lead making the Rocky Claims an exciting target.
The Rocky Claims surround the Tacheeda Lake Project owned by Spectrum Mining which was believed to cover a buried Carbonatite (Cominco 1986, Tacheeda Lake)
